How to Hook Up Your TV to the Internet

The Internet and television might seem like very two strange bedfellows, but it's easier than ever to marry the two mediums together. You might think they require a mountain of cable, converters and other electronic doo-dads that seem to just clutter up your entertainment center, but believe it or not, some of the methods are easy to install and set up or are all already hidden away in your existing accessories or consoles.

For instance, next-generation video game consoles such as the Playstation 3, the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii not only have capabilities to play game titles against other consoles over the Internet, but themselves have the ability to access web sites and services. Both the PS3 and Wii have fully integrated Internet browsers that provide full access to Internet videos and the rest of the web. Although the Xbox doesn't have its own browser in the traditional sense, it can still provide access to popular online services such as Twitter, Facebook and Netflix.

Apple offers its own unique way to connect the Internet to your television with Apple TV, a peripheral dedicated solely to providing high quality movies and TV shows to just about any television. While the device can download movies and TV shows for rent or purchase, it also acts as a bigger iPod that hooks up to your television. It can play music from your library of MP3s, access your favorite YouTube videos and even show pictures from a photo library or Flickr account.
